Mool Mantar - Guru Granth Sahib

The Guru Granth Sahib opens with the ‘Mool Mantar’ or Mul Mantra which was composed by the first Sikh Guru – Guru Nanak Devji. It is generally believed to be the essence of Sikh thought and sums up Guru Nanakji’s vision of the Divine.

Ik Onkaar Satnaam Kartaa Purakh Nirbhau Nirvair Akaal Moorat Ajooni Saibhang Gurparsaad. Jap – Aad Sach, Jugaad Sach, Hai Bhi Sach, Nanak Hosi Bhi Sach.’

Meaning of  the Mool Mantar

God is One and permeates the universe. God’s name is the Eternal Truth. God is the Sole Creator, has no fear, is free from malice and has no enemies.  God is timeless and formless, is not born and is self created. God can be attained with the grace of the Guru.Jap:  God was true before creation and is true in all ages. God is true now. Nanak says God will always be true.
