Guru Ravidas (Sant Raidas) states that he cannot but incessantly chant the name of his beloved Rama. O Lord, you are like sandalwood and I am like water. When I come close to you, every part of my being is infused with heavenly joy. O Lord, you are like a deep forest and I am like a peacock which revels in its sylvan surroundings. You are like the moon and I am like a chakor (a bird) who constantly gazes at the moon with never-ending love and wants to be united with it. O Lord, you are like a lamp (diya) and I am like a wick. I shine only because of my unflinching devotion to you. You are like an invaluable pearl and I am like the thread whose value increases manifold when it is used to string pearls. O Lord, you are like suhaga (a chemical compound used to purify gold) and I am like impure gold. You purify me. O Lord, you are the one and only Master and I am but your humble servant, a devout bhakta.
