Sanskrit Shloka for Diya - दीपज्योतिः

दीपज्योतिः परंब्रह्म दीपज्योतिर्जनार्दनः।

दीपो हरतु मे पापं दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥

हिन्दी में अर्थ

दीपक का प्रकाश परम ब्रह्म का रूप है और सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्मांड के स्वामी एवं उद्धार करने वाले जनार्दन का रूप है| मैं दीपक के प्रकाश को नमस्कार कर, प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि यह दिव्य प्रकाश हमारे समस्त पापों का हरण करे।

Meaning in English

The light of the lamp or Diya symbolises the supreme Brahman and the Janardhana – the one who is the  master of the universe and liberates all. Let the light of this lamp eliminate our sins. My salutations to this eternal and effulgent light.

Note: This Sanskrit shloka is chanted everyday by millions of Hindus while lighting the Diya or Deepak. It is also chanted and used as a prayer during Diwali or Deepawali in which rows of lamps are lighted.
