Why is Ram Navami celebrated?
Ram Navami (also spelt Ram Navmi) is celebrated on the ninth day (navami) of the bright half of the month of Chaitra (March-April) as per the Hindu calendar. The festival commemorates the birth of Shri Rama and is observed by Hindus all across the globe in multiple ways that range from fasting and chanting the name of Shri Rama to reading the Ramayana and performing the kalyana (marriage ceremony) of Shri Rama and Sita. It is believed that he was born in the afternoon and hence special prayers, prasad and arati are offered during this time.
