गौर वर्ण की, गौर वस्त्र धारण कर, विद्युत की तरह श्वेत कान्ति से दैदीप्यमान, पवित्रता की प्रतिमूर्ति, देवी महागौरी वृषभ पर आरूढ़ हैं| माँ दुर्गा की यह अनुपम विभूति जिनके एक हाथ में त्रिशूल है एवं दूसरे हाथ में डमरू है, वास्तव में पर्वतीजी की है जिन्होंने भगवान शिव को पति के रूप में पाने हेतु सहस्त्रों वर्षों तक तप किया था| नवरात्रि के आठवें दिन, भक्तगण माता महागौरी की एकनिष्ठ भाव से उपासना कर न केवल लौकिक शांति एवं सुख की कामना करते हैं वरन् उनसे वर माँगते हैं की वे भी उनके समान अपने लक्ष्य को पाने के लिए एकाग्रचित्त हो कर, कठोर से कठोर तपस्या के कठिन पथ से कभी भी पथभ्रष्ट न हों|
