Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd of every year. In Indian tradition, the entire Prithvi (पृथ्वी) or Earth is akin to our mother and is revered as a Goddess, a Devi (भूदेवी) who belongs to everyone – all living beings – all flora and fauna. Many Indians begin their day with a prayer to her even today. That we beseech her for nourishing us, but still continue to plunder her is perhaps the greatest tragedies of our times.
Narish mother earth
In return she will narish us
