One who does not provide for (help) the friend who one lives with or is beholden to, is not a friend.
na sa sakhā yo na dadāti sakhye sacābhuve sacamānāya pitvaḥ |
Our readers will notice the similarity between this subhashita from the ancient Rigveda (quote from the Rigveda) and the proverb that we hear quite often – A friend in need is a friend indeed. The message is loud and clear – one should not leave any stone unturned in helping friends. Always help your friends.
