Chhath Puja is one of the most ancient festivals of India and falls in October-November (month of Kartika as per the Indian calendar). Devotees worship the Sun God or Surya Devata along with Shasthi Devi (Chhath maiya) in this four-day celebration held primarily in Bihar, Jharkand and Uttar Pradesh. A time for rigorous fasting followed by feasting, water and water bodies find a special place in the rituals which are essentially meant to express gratitude for the bounty of nature that sustains all life on earth.

कार्तिक मास (अक्टूबर-नवंबर) में मनाया जाने वाला छठ पूजा का पर्व, भारत के प्राचीनतम त्योहारों में से एक है |चार दिवस का यह त्योहार मुख्य रूप से बिहार, झारखंड और उत्तर प्रदेश के निवासी मानते हैं| भक्त आदिदेव सूर्य भगवान एवं षष्ठी मैया की पूजा- अर्चना करते हैं, कठोर उपवास रखते हैं एवं उपवास के बाद नाना प्रकार के पारंपरिक भोजन का सेवन करते हैं| इस निर्जला व्रत में जल तथा जलाशयों एवं नदियों का विशेष महत्व है| भारत के अधिकांश पर्वों की तरह, छठ पूजा भी समस्त जीवों का पालन-पोषण करने वाली प्रकृति के प्रति आभार व्यक्त करने का एक अनूठा त्योहार है।
