Read our note Premchand’s famous short story in Hindi – Eidgah.

Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated on the last day of the holy month of Ramzaan after a month of ritual fasting. In India, namaaz is offered at large, decked-up idgahs and mosques across the country. People give zakaat (make charitable donations) and greet each other with the customary Eid Mubarak. All communities join their Muslim sisters and brothers in the festivities and partaking innumerable delicacies including the special sevayyain which is a signature dessert made of fine, toasted sweet vermicelli noodles that are cooked in ghee, milk and dry fruits.
