non-violence – अहिंसा truth – सत्य non-stealing – अस्तेय (चोरी नहीं करना) celibacy – ब्रह्मचर्य non-attachment or non-possession – अपरिग्रह (धन का संग्रह नहीं करना)
The ‘5 Fundamental Vows in Jainism’ summarise the teachings of Lord Mahāvīra and help in putting them into practice. While it is enjoined upon Jaina nuns and monks to follow these vows strictly, we believe that these vows are also fundamental principles which can help lay persons in leading ethical and disciplined lives.
‘जैन धर्म के पञ्च महाव्रत’ एक प्रकार से भगवान महावीर की शिक्षा का सार हैं| जैन साधुओं एवं साध्वियों हेतु इनका पालन करना अनिवार्य है| परंतु यदि गंभीरता से विचार किया जाए तो यथासंभव इन व्रतों का पालन कर, प्रत्येक मनुष्य एक नैतिक एवं अनुशासित जीवन का निर्वाह कर सकता है|
