शं नो वरुण:

May the Lord of Oceans – Varuna be auspicious unto us.

जल एवं महासागरों के देव – वरुण, हमारे लिये कल्याणकारी हों|

The Indian Navy not guards the territorial integrity of India’s waters but also plays diplomatic, constabulatory and benign roles. Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 every year.

Did You Know?

The motto of the Indian Navy – शं नो वरुण:, is in Sanskrit and has been adapted from the Vedas. It was suggested by Shri C. Rajagopalachari. Varuna is the presiding deity of the waters and is also responsible for maintaining ऋत or cosmic order.
