Salutations to Devi Tulsi who brings all that is good in life (kalyana), who is the beloved of Sri Vishnu and who is auspicious. Salutations to Devi Tulsi who grants liberation and bestows prosperity.
Tulsi (तुलसी or Tulasi) is regarded by Hindus as one of the holiest plants and can be found in almost every household. Considered to be an epitome of purity, the sacred Tulsi is also valued for her medicinal properties which are extolled in Ayurveda and also recognised by modern science. The devout worship Devi Tulsi every morning and one of the most important festivals devoted to her falls on Dev Utthani Ekadashi (देव उत्थानी एकादशी – eleventh day) of the month of Karthik (October – November) after Diwali. This day or the day after is when Tulsi Vivah (तुलसी विवाह – the marriage of Tulsi to Vishnu) is performed.
