National Youth Day is celebrated every year in India on January 12 to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

Born as Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, he passed away at a young age but his ideals and ideas have continued to inspire generations. Swamiji was a nationalist par excellence who worked tirelessly to unite all Indians, to rejuvenate the spiritual heritage of India and to uplift all human beings. He gave a clarion call to all young people to ‘Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached’ and propagated the idea that ‘seeing the divine as the essence of others will promote love and social harmony’.
