There is nectar in water; there is medicine in water.
ऋग्वेद १.२३.१९ । Rigveda 1.23.19
From times immemorial Indian and many other ancient civilisations regarded water as ambrosia and worshipped water as the source of life. In the Rigveda, water is unequivocally proclaimed as both amrita and the healer of diseases. Even today, holy water is offered to devotees as prasada or tirtha in temples.
It is but a sad commentary on modern human beings in general and Indians in specific that we have mindlessly and ruthlessly exploited all natural sources of water and brought ourselves to a state where some believe that wars for water are knocking at our doors.
World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year to urge global citizens to rally together and urgently find solutions to crises pertaining to water and sanitation.
