Wishing everyone a blessed and joyous Eid al-Adha. May this auspicious occasion bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to all. Id-ul-Zuha Mubarak! बक़रीद मुबारक!
Eid al-Adha 0r Id-ul-Zuha, also known as Bakrid in the Indian subcontinent, is celebrated by Muslims all over the world. The foundational legend of this festival recounts that Allah asked Ibrahim to sacrifice that which was dearest to him at His altar. Ibrahim was ready to sacrifice his son Ismail or Samuel who also readily agreed. Ismail told his father to cover his eyes so that his hands would not tremble. When Ibrahim removed his blindfold, he realised that Ismail had been replaced with a ram through divine intervention and his son had been saved. The Christian and Jewish version of the legend states that it was not Ismail but Isaac who was offered for sacrifice.
The festival is special because it is also the day on which devout Muslims congregate at Mecca for the holy pilgrimage referred to as Hajj.
