When and why is Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrated?

Guru Nanak Devji, the first Guru of the Sikhs and a great Indian saint and reformer, was born at Talwandi Rai Bhoeki (now Nankana Sahib in Pakistan) in 1469 CE. Traditionally, the full moon day of the Indian month of Kartika (Kartika Purnima) is celebrated as Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti to mark his birthday. Team Cultural Samvaad has put together a collection of quotes of Guru Nanak and wishes in Hindi, English and Punjabi to mark this important festival.
