Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth guru of the Sikhs and the founder of the Khalsa had four brave sons who are collectively referred to as the Char Sahibzaade.  Ajit Singh was born to Mata Sundari while Jujhar Singh, Zoravar Singh and Fateh Singh were born to Mata Jito.

In 1704 CE, the brave, young Char Sahibzaade were sacrificed at the altar of the Great Dharmayuddha. The two elder sahibzaade – Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh fought valiantly and fell at the Battle of Chamkaur against the Mughals. The younger sahibzaade – Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh who were just 9 and 7 respectively were captured by the Nawab of Sirhind and executed in the most dastardly manner either by being walled in alive or by decapitation. Their grandmother Mata Gujri could not bear this news and passed away. The supreme sacrifice of these four young martyrs – the char sahibzaade is unparalleled in history and continues to inspire and move.

26th December is observed is Veer Baal Diwas to remember these immortal young heroes of India.
