When and why is Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti celebrated?

Guru Gobind Singhji was the tenth guru in the Sikh tradition. He proclaimed that the Adi Granth would henceforth be the Guru for all Sikhs – ‘Guru manayo Granth’. He created the Khalsa and symbolises buoyant hope (चढ़दी कला). A true martyr, he was characterised by an indefatigable spirit to wage a war for Dharam (righteousness). Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti – his Prakash Parva is celebrated every year on January 6th.
