Mahavir Jayanti Sanskrit Wishes - Stuti Shloka 5

When and why is Mahavir Jayanti celebrated?

Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the coming of Bhagwan Vardhaman Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara of our times as per the Jain tradition. Vardhman Mahavira is believed to have been born on the auspicious day of Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi (thirteenth day of the increasing moon cycle generally in March-April) in 599 BCE* to the pious Trishala and Siddhartha  who belonged to an aristocratic Kshatriya family and lived in the republic of Vaishali or Vajji (located in present day Bihar, India).
